As promised ...

... the long-awaited (by me, anyway) review of Middle Cyclone, the latest release by the Divine Ms. Neko Case. I wanted to give it five stars, but I recognize that 31 minutes of frogs and crickets might not be everybody's aural cup of tea.

Still, I love it.

After reading your blog, I was inspired to check her out on youtube... I'm blown away. In fact, I'm so speechless right now I'm stealing a comment from another listener:

I read about her from the new york times just last night. I thought, "what the fuck. let me download one of her albums." and so i did- the fox confessor album. as i write this- with my 4th glass of tango waiting- i must say, she's one of the few artists who has made a lasting impression on me. the experience reminds me of watching the sun rise on top of a high mountain on a cool sunshiny day- makes me feel weightless, free and renewed.

really.

That's awesome, Maggie! I'm always glad to land another convert. Honestly, I think her last two CDs are as good as anything released in this decade, and Furnace Room Lullaby (her 2nd album, circa 1998-99) is different but just as rewarding.

She's truly one of a kind. I know she gets to Atlanta when she tours, so please go check out one of her shows. She also tells the funniest stories between songs.
