Hey Sox fans -- the Man in Black has two words for you.
Meanwhile, the future is bright for the Twins. Five young starting pitchers -- age 24 to 26 this season -- with a year of experience under their belts. Mauer, Morneau and Nathan locked up long-term. Great years from the "kids" -- Gomez, Span and Casilla. The potential emergence of Mijares as an eighth-inning guy, with Neshek coming back next year as well. And only one more year in the Dome.

Hey Pat,
We watched several teams, including the Twins, use starters on 3 days rest, with success. Danks last night was another example of that. What do you think about a team breaking from current convention and going with a 4 man rotation full time next season? This was the norm years ago in MLB, during a time when you didn't hear about as many arm injuries and Tommy John surgeries. Perhaps this needs to be an organization mindset and be implemented up and down the minor league system as well to prepare pitchers, but I think an MLB team could have more success with 4 good pitchers than with 4 + the typical not-so-good 5th starter.
It may be cyclical and trend back in the other direction, but as long as it's viewed as an injury risk and a competitive disadvantage to pitch on 3 days rest, it won't be widely embraced by MLB. That's not to say it wouldn't work -- especially with the deep bullpens that some teams have put together. I could see a starter going five or six innings every fourth game, then turning the ball over to a parade of hard-throwing relievers. Might be the way we're heading.
Don Ali, I have seldomly disagreed with you, and that still stands. The Twins are one year shy. Hope you had fun in Sedona; Tina ..., er, I mean Sarah, is doing a great job.
